Outfit details at the end of this post

Every Greek island has its own unique charm. But they all share that dreamy combination of iconic white-washed towns, turquoise waters, and golden sunsets. Whether you’re heading to Mykonos, Santorini, or Naxos (or hopping over to Paros, Crete, or Kefalonia), discover what to wear in the Greek islands with this curated packing list – effortless, chic essentials perfect for golden hour & beyond.

These 10 style essentials will help you blend in (or stand out!) effortlessly. And if Mykonos is on your itinerary, be sure to check out my suggested beach club attire in my Mykonos travel guide for outfit inspo that turns heads.

(1) Sheer linen co-ords

Lightweight linen sets are still reigning supreme, but 2025’s twist is semi-sheer textures that feel floaty and sensual while keeping you cool. Linen will always be a fantastic choice for summer travel, so keep the colors neutral and the cuts timeless, like a pair of beige wide leg pants.

(2) Muted citrus tones

Everyone tends to pack a blue & white wardrobe, but I also love the contrast of an orange dress with the blue domes. It’s a more bold choice, but makes for great photos. Softer takes on citrus hues are huge this year, adding a fresh pop without overwhelming your outfit or your photos. For 2025 think lemon sorbet, papaya blush, and pale tangerine.

(3) Crochet everything

From cover-ups to maxi dresses to bags, crochet is big again—but with chunkier knits and unexpected color combos. It’s perfect for layering over swimsuits or wearing to seaside dinners.

(4) White midi dresses

The Greek islands can get very hot during the day, but cool down at night with strong winds. Midi dresses are the perfect blend of form & function in an updated silhouette, and a crisp white is the perfect contrast against those gorgeous island sunsets. I have both casual daytime options and ideas for evening below.

(5) A black & white bikini

Most days you’ll (hopefully) be wearing a swimsuit, and I love a classic black & white bikini. It gives old money vibes, and looks great against the blue Mediterranean water. One of those versatile summer items that everyone should own, and something that shows up on my summer style posts every year. I’ve found a few awesome affordable & high-end options below.

(6) Pearl & shell jewelry with a twist

A new piece of jewelry is one of my favorite things to purchase on vacation – and there is a lot of traditional evil-eye jewelry at the local shops (I explain why jewelry featuring eyes is so popular in Greece here). But I always pack timeless, minimal gold pieces that I can layer. A new item I’m packing for 2025, however, is modern pearl & shell jewelry. Mixing natural elements with metals in bold, artistic ways is in style this summer. I’ve included recs for both below.

(7) Oversized straw visors

A stylish update to the classic beach hat, straw visors are making waves. They give off 90s resort vibes and are more packable than wide-brim hats.

(8) Asymmetric swimwear

One-shoulder and cut-out swimsuits continue into 2025, offering structure, elegance, and just the right amount of edge for beach days and boat parties. I also love a black plunge one-piece – they’re perfect to wear in the Greek islands if you want to feel chic. Black is a flattering color for everyone, and it will fit in well at the upscale beach clubs in Mykonos or by the pools in Santorini.

(9) Grecian-inspired sandals

Block heels are optional, but a pair of comfortable flat sandals are essential. It’s difficult to get taxis and most roads & paths are cobblestone, so you’ll need something easy to walk in.  I prefer tan or light brown, since it goes with just about everything. While you’re on the islands, also be sure to pick up a pair of handmade Greek leather sandals – they’re inexpensive and unique. I include my favorite sandal spots in Santorini in my travel guide.

(10) A raffia bag

Lastly, a raffia bag is a must. Natural textures pop beautifully against whitewashed walls and blue seas, making this the ultimate Greek island packing list item. 2025 sees a shift toward slouchy shapes and bucket bags with structured bases and leather trims. They give off beachy elegance while still being roomy enough for sunglasses, sunscreen, and your phone. I’ve included affordable options and designer options below.

Other essentials

And just a bonus (since this is a complete packing list for the Greek islands), here are some non-fashion essentials that you’ll need for your trip.

  • Mosquito wipes: I swear by these deet-free non-toxic mosquito wipes. I bring them with me everywhere in the summer. They’re individually wrapped, which makes them perfect for throwing into a purse or beach bag.
  • Euros: most taxi or transfer drivers want cash, plus you’ll need coins for the buses.
  • A lightweight cotton beach towel: A lot of the more casual beach lounge spots don’t provide towels, so it’s smart to bring your own. These lightweight cotton towels are easy to pack and fast-drying.
  • Motion sickness bracelet: A ferry is the easiest way to get from island to island, so if you’re planning to island-hop I highly recommend packing a motion-sickness bracelet.
  • Noise cancelling earplugs: these silicone ear plugs are a must for travel, and they’re super comfortable to sleep in if you’re staying near the beach clubs.
  • Sunscreen: a necessity for Greece! I prefer high-SPF French brands, like this one from La Roche Posay.
  • (Optional) a pashmina or wrap: if you’re planning to visit a monastery, try to wear your linen pants or midi dress and a cardigan. However, if you’re wearing something shorter or that leaves your shoulders uncovered, you can also bring a pashmina to cover up for the visit.

And that’s it for my packing list on what to wear in the Greek islands! I’d love to know if you’re planning a trip, so let me know in the comments below. And if you’re looking for more travel outfit inspiration, check my IG Story highlights at @mercedesconstantine.
