I can’t believe I’m already writing my monthly post. October felt like it came & went, but in a good way – it’s one of my favorite months of the year.
I watched the leaves change in Amsterdam, and we had the opportunity to take two trips with friends – both of which were amazing in different ways. Our first October trip was to Portugal with relatives from the US. Meeting up with friends & family from the states has been difficult to coordinate with COVID, so seeing them on our side of the world was really special. We hadn’t seen them since our wedding in 2018 – and I hadn’t been back to Portugal since 2015!
Our second trip in October was a group wine tasting trip to the Burgundy region of France. That may have been the most relaxing trip I’ve ever taken, because I didn’t have to plan a single thing! Typically I’m the person who coordinates an entire trip – not because I always enjoy it, but because I’m the “planner” of my friend groups. A friend of a friend planned the incredible itinerary for Burgundy, complete with with all of the winery visits, sights to see, and meals.
Since we prioritized travel this month (and work has also been busy), I haven’t had much time to write blog posts. But I did recently share my travel guide for Lake Como, and started working on my guides for Porto & Burgundy. Look for them soon!

What I’m watching: Dune & Midnight Mass
This month, I saw Dune in 4D – it was my first movie in a theater in at least two years! Everything about the film was phenomenal – from the cinematography, to the acting, to the directing. I highly recommend seeing it if you have a chance.
I also binge-watched Midnight Mass on Netflix over Halloween weekend. It’s definitely a slow burn, but it gets really good (and really creepy) halfway through. If you aren’t a fan of horror, try Stranger Things – I always rewatch the first season around Halloween.
What I’m looking forward to: Thanksgiving
Last year we stayed in the Netherlands for Thanksgiving because of COVID. Although we had a great “friendsgiving” with another couple that we are close with, I really missed spending time with family – and I reflected a lot on what I was grateful for. This year, I’m grateful that we will see some some friends & family for Thanksgiving since we are heading back to the US.
Unfortunately it’s a quick trip and we won’t be able to see everyone. But I am looking forward to reviving one of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions. We will be spending time with my husband’s family in Big Bear, California, which is always cozy and relaxing (I expect to spend the entire week in loungewear).
What I’m using: Agent Nateur
I’m a big fan of their natural deodorant, but recently started using the vitamin C powder from Agent Nateur. It’s really expensive, so I got a mini travel size to test it out. I usually put an amount half the size of a pea into my palm, and mix it with their holi water. Check out this travel sized set if you’re interested in sampling their beauty products.
What I’m reading: this celeb wellness book
I recently started reading more educational & self-help books. Being someone who has a voracious love of learning, I’ve always found reading to be the best way to absorb information.
I found this health & wellness book by Cameron Diaz to be surprisingly well thought out and informative. I definitely recommend it if you’re looking to learn more about your body and taking care of yourself.
What I’m doing: celebrating
I had the best time celebrating Halloween last weekend (its my favorite holiday!), and actually had three different parties to go to – quite the change from celebrating Halloween at home last year.
This week I’m getting ready for my birthday, which is on Saturday the 6th. It coincides with Museum Night in Amsterdam, where museums are open late with fun exhibits & drinks. And it’s actually been an entire week of celebrations! One of my close friends also had her birthday this week, and another good friend planned a girls dinner for me last night. Once we get to the US, I’m also planning to see all of my friends in Los Angeles for post-birthday drinks. I’ve always been a big fan of birthdays and I love making them special (especially for my friends), so this week has me feeling lucky that I have such a great support system across the world. 🙂
