What a month. We had to push back our trip to the US, but we finally arrived a couple of weeks ago – and it’s been a crazy whirlwind ever since. I have to admit that my husband and I are both homesick for Amsterdam, so we’re looking forward to heading back. It was surprising because we’ve missed California so much, but I think it’s a good sign that we are acclimating to our new home country.
In just a few weeks we’ll have stayed in 6 hotels plus multiple houses, driven 2,000+ miles, and seen dozens of family members & close friends. I’ve also been working early mornings and late evenings, so it hasn’t felt like much of a vacation (even though it’s our first big trip in 9 months). It’s been a learning experience, so I’ll definitely be writing a post on what to avoid during your first trip home as an expat. But in the meantime we’ve been making the most of our first trip back to the states! Lots of amazing food, drinks with friends, and Target runs (honestly one of the things I miss most). I’ll also be sharing some US travel guides soon – look for them in the coming months!

What I’m doing: dermaplaning
Back in April I tested out a facial treatment called dermaplaning. The treatment exfoliates away dead skin cells and congestion, and also removes baby hairs so makeup goes on smoother. It sounds scary at first – it uses a razor – but it’s less damaging than a chemical peel. Just make sure to find a reputable and trained aesthetician – I go to AD Amsterdam in the city.
What I’m wearing: this belt
With all of the packing & repacking and driving up and down California, I’ve been living in comfortable jeans + white sneakers. But one thing I realized with the wide-leg jeans trend is that I absolutely needed a good belt. So I recently invested in this belt (EU link), which has become one of my favorite closet staples. It’s definitely an investment, but things like a good pair of black heels or a classic belt are always worth investing in.
What I’m using: this French moisturizer
There are several French beauty products that I love, but my latest obsession is this moisturizer. I first tried it out after dermaplaning, and have been using it ever since. It’s super gentle and hydrating but won’t clog pores.
What I’m listening to: this travel inspired playlist
One of the first trips we have booked for 2021 is Mykonos. My husband Jimmy & I had a blast last summer, and this year we actually have friends & family joining us (CAN NOT wait). So I’ve been listening to this playlist on repeat to keep me motivated – and if you aren’t familiar with Scorpios, check out this post to find out why you should visit.
What I’m excited for: Amsterdam terraces
Restaurants have been open for a while in California & Texas, so we’ve been eating our way through all of our favorite restaurants. But with weather improving in Amsterdam, I’m really excited to visit my favorite terraces when we get back!
