It feels like I JUST unpacked my warm weather clothes and started shopping for spring. But we arrived in Los Angeles yesterday, and it definitely feels like summer is around the corner! There are six easy summer staples that you need in your closet for 2021 – read on to find out what they are, and shop my favorites.

A white blazer
I wrote about how popular menswear would be for spring, and the chic suiting item that you need for summer is a white blazer. You can go with a stark white or a cream, depending on what suits your wardrobe and coloring. Try pairing it with a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans and a white crop top, or denim shorts and a sleeveless turtleneck.
Vintage tinted sunglasses
The 70’s are in this summer, but psychedelic prints aren’t for everyone. If you’re looking for something that is easier to pull off and still incorporate the 70’s trend, go for a pair of tinted sunglasses.
A pair of white sneakers
I recently wrote about my favorite Dutch trend – white sneakers. They’re the perfect summer staple because they can easily dress down outfits, allowing you to leverage more of your wardrobe. Try pairing them with a satin midi skirt or a silk slip dress – or a sundress and a denim jacket for a more casual look.
A neutral tote bag
This is one of those items you will use year after year, so if there was one item to invest in, this would be it. I love the Celine Cabas classic & St. Tropez totes, and the Chloe Woody tote. The Saint Laurent Rive Gauche tote is also a good option, and since it’s darker in person it will transition well into fall. I’ve also included some less expensive options below as well!
Neutral slip-on sandals
This pair of shoes is another essential – but these are actually perfect for dressing up outfits. Of all the summer trends for 2021 this one is my favorite, because they’re so practical and timeless. Lower heels are very on trend right now, so ideally pick a pair that is less than 2 or 3 inches tall. Wear them with wide leg jeans and a white button up.
Bright color basics
I also wrote about cheerful colors in my latest trends post. Pastels were hot for spring, and bright colors are in for summer. I recommend choosing inexpensive basics – like a bodysuit or crop top – in a color that will suit you. Bright pink, orange, and neon green are all great choices. Try pairing them with wide-leg jeans, or even mixing and matching with color blocking. Swimsuits or sandals are also a great way to wear color for summer!
