Have you ever struggled with pants being miles too long? Or “midi” skirts really being maxi skirts? I’m 5’2″, so these are problems I run into all the time. Being petite comes with a big list of fashion woes – one of which is that trends look amazing on models, but can look silly on me if they aren’t tailored properly. But over the years I’ve learned a few tips. And my best fashion secret for how to shop when you’re petite is to shop in the kids section! It can be tough to find “grown up” styles, but when you find a gem it will be on trend, cheaper than adult versions, and won’t require expensive tailoring. Below are the five best places to buy petite clothing with kids & teen lines, and I’ve curated my favorite items in keeping with the best spring trends for 2021.

xx,
Mercedes

Mango Teens

One of my favorite places for teen sizing is Mango. I recently bought several cute sweaters (including the spring striped sweater in this post). They do have a lot of younger styles, but if you look hard you can find some minimalist pieces in spring colors. And even some pieces that resemble one of my favorite French fashion brands, Sezane.

Dolce & Gabbana Kids

One of the benefits of being petite is that you can fit into less expensive high end items. Dolce & Gabbana is a great designer for small sizes (and accessories) at a much lower price tag than their full size items. Plus they’re spring line is so on trend (check out the garden party florals below). They do run small (up to size 12) so they would best fit close to an adult size XXS or XS for people around 5 feet tall.

Gucci Kids

Gucci is another luxury brand that has an adorable kids line. They have smaller versions of tons of their chic adult items – including their trendy belts, which are perfect if you have a small waist. My favorite items from their spring line are below.

Zara Kids

Zara always has trendy items (although I despise shopping on their website, which is so difficult to navigate). Their normal adult sizing is almost always too big for me, so I love shopping their kids section. Their large and XL girls sizing will fit great if you’re typically an XS and under 5’4″.

Burberry Kids

And last but not least – one of my favorite classic luxury brands, Burberry. They always have cute accessories in their traditional check prints, and even have big kids/teen sizing in their iconic trenchcoats. Bigger sizes go fast so they can be hard to find, but I’ve curated a few of my favorites below.
