Plaid blazers are one of my favorite fall trends, but they can easily look awkward or frumpy. If you pair them with the right items though, a plaid blazer can make a basic outfit look chic (plus I’m loving all of the Clueless vibes I’m getting). One of the things I like to keep in mind before investing in a trend is to make sure it’s wearable. So if you’re wondering how to style a plaid blazer – here are my 5 favorite ways to wear it!
With mom jeans & a lace camisole
A plaid blazer is the perfect way to dress up basic jeans and a tank top. It’s still a casual look, but feels much more put together. I like to add a feminine element by wearing a lace camisole instead of a plain tank.
With a sweater dress & ankle boots
If you’re wondering how to style a plaid blazer for fall, this look is it. Sweater dresses are perfect for changing seasons, and can transition easily from day to night. I’ve flipped the collar of my blazer to make it feel more like a coat, and added a pair of brown ankle boots (US link // EU link for my exact boots, and this similar pair at Sezane).
With over the knee boots & a ruffled blouse
This look is full Cher Horowitz and I love it. OTK boots can be intimidating if you don’t know how to style them, but they pair perfectly with a plaid blazer! From there just add a neutral skirt (like this leather one from H&M, US link // EU link) and a ruffled blouse. Mine is from Sezane’s pre-fall collection (sold out), but I also included some great options below.
With an oversized sweater & chain flats
Oversized sweaters are one of the coziest things about fall for me, but they can be a bit basic. So in addition to topping this look with a plaid blazer, I’ve incorporated another fall trend: chains! I’ve added chain flats (one of my favorite finds, US link / EU link), but you can also go with heels – see below for some options. With a graphic tee & skinny jeans
After spending so much time at home, I’ve gotten back into graphic tees. They’re comfortable, but look way better on a Zoom call than a plain white t-shirt. So if you’re looking for a way to dress up a graphic tee for that next work call, pair it with a plaid blazer.
